Visit to Solent Sky Aviation Museum

I recently made a visit to this museum in Southampton, on the south coast of England. There are ferry crossings from France to both Poole and Portsmouth which provide easy access to Southampton.

At the museum there is parking just outside and additional parking and a Weatherspoon's pub nearby. The pub, The Admiral Sir Lucius Curtis, provides all day refreshments.

The museum houses 20 aircraft and is staffed by volunteers. For me, of special interest was the Mk 24 Spitfire. It saw service with the RAF in Malyaysia and is in almost oringinal condition. You can get up close and even touch it! Other notable aircraft are a DH82 Tigermoth, a DH115 Vampire, a Sea Vixen FAW2 and most especially a Short Sandringham four- engined flying boat. You may go inside the aircraft to the passenger compartment and it is possible to visit the flight deck by asking a member of the knowledgeable staff. On an upper level there is a collection of uniforms and flying jackets.
